SCHOOL OF PSYCHOLOGY CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY PROGRAM  FACULTY RESEARCH SPECIALIST – QUANTITATIVE SPECIALTY   POSITION TITLE : Faculty Research Specialist - Quantitative Specialty (Two half-time positions) Reports to:  Program Director, Clinical Psychology Program  Position:  Regular, half-time (.5 FTE), 12-month  Hiring/Budgeted Salary or Hourly Range: The budgeted salary range that the university reasonably expects to pay for this position is $37,000 - $38,000 annually.  Full Salary Range: The full salary range for the position is $37,000 - $40,000 annually

(Visit our website at  .)The Faculty Research Specialist (FRS) provides consultation to graduate students during the dissertation process, serves as an advisor to or member of the dissertation committee, and gives written feedback on documents developed during the dissertation process. In addition, the Faculty Research Specialist – Quantitative Specialty is expected to teach online courses in quantitative approaches to research design and data analysis. The FRS will attend one national meeting per year, Winter, Summer, or Fall Session, to teach face-to-face seminars. The FRS may also participate in supervising research practicum students, either working on their own research or as a consultant to other faculty members’ research practicum teams. In addition, the FRS will be appointed to and participate in the FRS Committee and possibly one of the other standing Clinical Psychology faculty committees. Duties 1 - Provide consultation during the dissertation process. The Faculty Research Specialist serves as advisor to or member of the dissertation committee; provides written feedback on documents including concept papers, drafts of dissertation proposals and dissertation drafts. Also participates in the final oral review (seen as akin to a dissertation defense).
  • Feedback to students and their committees is communicated in writing and occurs at all stages of the dissertation process, from initial concept paper (preliminary draft of research ideas) through finished draft.
  • The number of dissertations (ranges from 15-25) on which a half-time FRS is expected to serve is established contractually based on percentage time and other assignments.
2 - Teach Online Courses in Research Design and Analysis.FRS are expected to teach 12-15 credits per year of research design and analysis courses depending on their contractual obligations, specific research skills and workload. 3 - Attend the Residential Sessions and offer in person Research Skills Seminars. Faculty Research Specialists are expected to attend one residential session each year. Timing is arranged based on school needs and the FRS’s availability. At these meetings FRS perform the following functions: 
  • Meet with dissertation students and their committees.
  • Present 3 days of Research Skills Seminars.
  • Attend Community Meetings, Clinical Faculty Committee meetings, and FRS Meetings.
  • Meet with individual students to discuss dissertation related themes as time permits.
4 - Serve as an advisor to faculty regarding issues of research design and analysis. The FRS is not expected to run analyses for faculty or students and is not expected to write sections of papers or grant proposals without clearly stated agreements regarding authorship or other compensation. Specific consultation times shall be mutually agreed upon by FRS and those receiving consultation.5 - Attend FRS meetings and Clinical Faculty Committee meetings, either in person or virtually.  Qualifications
  • A doctorate in psychology, sociology, statistics, biostatistics, preventive medicine, public health, data science or a closely related discipline is required.
  • Record of research and scholarly publications utilizing quantitative methods.
  • Experience in progressive student-centered education for adult learners, including teaching at the graduate level.
  • Supervision of doctoral dissertations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, including intercultural awareness and competence in teaching students from diverse multicultural backgrounds. 
  • Experience in multimedia forms of communication, including on-line teaching.
  • Availability to travel up to 10 days per year to residential sessions in various parts of the country.
The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence in communicating complex quantitative methodological issues in a conceptual manner to psychology graduate students with diverse substantive backgrounds and differing levels of research expertise. We expect that the successful candidate will have an established and ongoing record of research that focuses on the use of quantitative methods and/or demonstrates the use of these methods. A strong commitment to distance education and a desire to communicate collegially with students and faculty is particularly desirable.
